ETJMS General Music

Topics of Study Include:

  • Study of many styles of music including Contemporary, Classical, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Reggae, et cetera.
  • Introduction to, and hands-on application of four main patterns in music:  Rhythm, Melody, Texture, Form
  • Writing and Reading Music Notation
  • African Percussion
  • Spotlight on major composers
  • Guitar - Performance and History (8th Grade Gen. Music only)
  • Music Technology Unit - composing music using computers.

General Music Grade Breakdown

  • Participation - student is engaged in discussion, volunteering to read or write on board, contributing in group activities.
  • Attitude - student shows respect to teacher and to subject being taught.  Student is aware that a negative attitude will effect their final grade for that project or class period.
  • Completion of music notebook, worksheets, tests and quizzes
