Types of Learning Disabilities
Visual Perceptual Disability: Students
with this type of learning disability see letters and numbers in
different positions from how they are written. They may confuse left
and right, and they may have trouble distinguishing important objects
from their backgrounds. This can cause students to skip words or
confuse lines as they read. Dyslexia: causes
some people to perceive letters and words incorrectly, and they may see
some letters in reverse, such as: "b" for "d", or "p" for "q". Hyperlexia: is found in some children who appear to have taught themselves to read sometime between the ages of 18 months to 2 years.
Auditory Perceptual Disability: Students
have a hard time finding differences in sounds and may hear something
different from what someone is saying. This makes it difficult for
these students to follow directions, especially when more than one is
given at a time. They have a difficult time blocking out background
noises, and it takes them longer to process the meaning of what they
hear.
