10/20 “Back In The Days” – students dress in clothing from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Rudy from Notre Dame Footfall to speak at an assembly.

10/21 Twin Day – students dress as a common character or as each other.

Bonfire for students and faculty @ 6:30 p.m. in the back parking lot.

The Terryville High School Band performed in the Columbus Day Parade in New York City; First term report cards will come out on October 29th

News on other schools

Plymouth Center School – Character Trait for October is “Respect” and bottle caps are being collected from October to the end of the year for recycling purposes. Fire Prevention Program and Officer Phil’s Safety Program in October. Kindergarten class to visit Minor’s Farm in Bristol on October 26th. PTA Halloween Party is scheduled for October 29 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the gymnasium.

 Eli Terry Jr. Middle School – 8th graders visited Terryville High School and attended an assembly telling them what they can expect in the coming years; students were welcomed by Fresh Start Mentors, whose goal was to help 8th graders transition from middle school to high school, Terryville High School Cheerleaders and the Drum Line. UNICEF Carnival – October 28 from 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. PTA Conferences November 1, 3 and 4. Letters to be mailed to parents on how to sign up for their conference on-line.

Sports activities are happening during Homecoming Week which is the last week in October.

Soccer teams will be playing their Wednesday night games at Muzzy Field. Games will begin at 6 p.m. Currently, the girls’ volleyball team is undefeated and is first in the Berkshire League.

10/26 Junior and Senior Flag Football Game

10/29 Pep Rally followed by the girls’ volleyball game.

10. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS/REQUESTS/INFORMATION

Mr. Lovely, Director of Curriculum & Instruction and District Administrator In Charge

 Mr. Lovely addressed the following: (a) the paperwork has been completed and submitted with respect to the ESCA Grant; (b) the Drug Free Communities Grant has been rolled over for 3rd year and (c) the Physical Educational Partnership Grant – no one in Connecticut received this grant.

Mr. Trudeau – Director of Technology

Mr. Trudeau thanked Ms. Gagnon, Ms. Block and Mr. Oleksiw for the night’s presentation. He also thanked the Plymouth 16 Crew. He urged parents that if they are having difficulty accessing the new parent access portal for Power School for the high school and/or the middle school to please e-mail support at http://support.plymouth.k12.ct.us.

Mr. Santogatta – Business Manager

Mr. Santogatta reported the September budget report looks good, i.e. payroll, utilities and supplies; it’s been a good month for the food service department and the percentage of students participating in the free/reduced lunch program is at an all high.

Dr. Distasio – Superintendent

Dr. Distasio informed Board Members that he submitted a packet of information on behalf of the Plymouth Board of Education for the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education’s Recognition Award. Our Board works together tirelessly for the children of the community. The members are perfect examples for other boards. A copy of the packet was passed around to Board Members for their viewing.

Dr. Distasio also mentioned the following: (a) Zachary Johnson, a student at Harry S. Fisher Elementary School will be competing at the National Gymnastics Future Stars Competition in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Best Wishes Zachary; (b) thank you to United Way for their donation of $10,000 for KIDS (Kids in the Middle); (c) “Kiss a Pig” Contest for the Imagination Museum; and (d) the student athletes are selling bracelets for Breast Cancer Awareness. Each Board Member was presented with a bracelet.

Terryville High School – Mr. Bourbonniere

Some of the items Mr. Bourbonniere reviewed were: Touch-a-Truck – due to weather constraints turnout was low; Upcoming Events: Bingo and Comedy Nights and the next PTSA Meetings take place the 1st Wednesday of a month with the next meeting on November 3, 2010.

SEPTA – Mr. Berube – Excused Absence

In lieu of Mr. Berube’s absence Dr. Distasio reported the following:

September 16 SEPTA Meeting

October 18 Greenery Fundraiser Due on October 28th – items available to purchase are (a) 24” Balsam wreath ;(b) 18”Balsam Wreath and Door Swag -. Order forms available at each school.

October 21 - 6:30 p.m. @ Plymouth Town Hall, Community Room - FOCUS Learning Center presents what it is like to be autistic.

October 16, November 13

& December 4 Dynamite Academy of Gymnastics is providing a specialized program for children diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Classes will meet for one hour each and feature one to one instruction. Please contact Melissa Johnson for more details.

October 24 A fishing trip to Black Rock in Thomaston from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Event is open to all. Fish license has been obtained for the entire day.

As always, SETPA continues to look for new members. Please consider attending a meeting to see what SEPTA is all about.

PTA Council – Dr. Distasio

 The PTA Council met on September 22, 2010. A pasta dinner fundraiser will be held on November 5th from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Terryville High School. They are considering reinstituting the Spelling Bee and are working with the elementary schools. He urged everyone to support your local PTA and/or PTA Council.


CABE – Mr. Orsini

Meeting is scheduled for September 15 at 5 p.m. at the CABE office in Wethersfield.

Commissioner McQuillan was the key note speaker. 

October 20 Social Networking & Our Public Schools: Districts Grapple with Student and Employee Issues – Dr. Distasio and Mr. Orsini to attend.

October 10 & November 8 Various Leadership Workshops held at St. Joseph College

13. FINAL BOARD COMMENTS

Mr. Bourbonniere – Great Presentation Mr. Trudeau; Thank You to all of the presenters

 Mr. Orsini – commended Mr. Trudeau and his staff; thank you to Ms. Block helping to get the word out on Fire Prevention; and the bonfire permits are in order.

 Mr. Perugino – Thank you to Dr. Distasio was taking time out of his weekend schedule to give his class a tour of the new and old Terryville High School. The individuals were amazed at what Terryville has to offer with respect to technology and the cleanliness of the buildings. There is “Nothing like a small town”.

14. NEXT REGULAR BOARD MEETING

Mr. Perugino stated that the next regular Board of Education Meeting will be held on

November 10, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Terryville High School.
